Road Trip: Last Call

We’re in the home stretch. Here’s a look back at team member vacations so far this summer

August 29, 2019
How is it nearly September already? Summer’s swan song is imminent. You’ve got one more long weekend to squeeze in a road trip, staycation or family adventure. Just be sure to do it in a Toyota or Lexus, snap a photo and send it to your friends at driverseat@toyota.com. If we run your picture, we’ll send you a pair of Sockios – perfect for those cozy fall nights just around the corner.

Ain’t No Mountain High Enough – TFS’ Chris Phillips took his 2018 TRD Off-Road Tacoma to Winter Park, Colorado for a week and did a local 4WD trail up to Bill Moore Lake (in Empire, Colorado).  A local favorite (and moderately difficult) trail leads you to a beautiful lake. This was on his way back down after a short mountain rainstorm.
Say Cheese – Customer Retention’s Andrea Baker, her husband and their two daughters (6 and 3) went on a two week
road trip to Rocky Mountain National Park in their brand-new RAV4. "We forgot to snap a pic in the beautiful Rockies,” Baker says. “So all we got was this lousy shirt, I mean, this lousy pic from Caprock Canyons State Park outside of Amarillo, Texas.” Not a bad consolation prize, Andrea.
Now We’re Hungry – PEMC’s Tom Burrows was fortunate to spend a week in mid-coast Maine with his entire family. Delicious lobster, beautiful views, fresh wild blueberries, and fantastic cycling on Acadia National Park’s carriage roads – along with his 2018 Camry XLE Hybrid.
A Different Long Beach – Portland PDC’s Carla Slocum took her Tundra to the beach in Long Beach, Washington to enjoy the beautiful July sunset. The Washington Long Beach Peninsula is the largest drivable beach in the world at 28 miles long.
Out of this World – Quality’s David Cusworth recently went on a road trip to Roswell, New Mexico – and just had to stop and see some green friends along the way in his 2018 4Runner TRD Off Road.
A Long Way from Home – Srini Bhupathiraju of IS recently enjoyed a desert safari in Dubai. “We had a great time during a desert dunes drive and no wonder the Land Cruisers is the vehicle they trust for its amazing traction, stability and control both on road and in the desert,” he says. “It was a proud moment.”
Golden Moment – R&D’s Brad Godshalk took his 2019 Tundra to Whiteface Mountain – home to many events for the 1980 Winter Olympics. On a clear day from the summit you can see most of the Adirondack High Peaks, as well as parts of Vermont and Quebec.
Into the Woods – R&D’s Jennifer Pelky took her2019 TRD Pro 4Runner on a Fourth of July camping trip to Hoffmaster State Park on Michigan’s west coast.
Start ‘Em Young – R&D’s Chris Dunklee sent this adorable photo of his son, future Toyota engineer Everett, playing with pinwheels in the driveway.
For Those About to Rock – R&D’s Derek Gibbs took his new Tacoma to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for some sightseeing at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore over the Fourth of July holiday.
Quite the Drive – TRD’s David Pyle road tripped with wife Michelle to compete in Howard, Colorado, at the NATC/AMA MotoTrials National Championships. Five days and 3,000 miles in his TRD Tacoma.
Too Cool for the Driveway – R&D’s Brandon Miller took his 86 on the road to visit family in Isle of Palms, South Carolina.
A car so sweet, it gets parked in the yard.

Red, White and Blue – TAPG's Cory Tafoya took his FJ Cruiser on a trip through the Broken Arrow trail in Sedona, Arizona.

Good Things Happen in Threes – Lexus’ Tase Thompson and friends took their 4Runners for a jaunt to Hidden Falls, just outside of Austin, Texas.
Fuel Efficient and Photogenic – Retail Market Development’s Meredith Meng sent this picture from her family vacation to Mallorca, Spain. It’s always a good sign when your taxi is a Toyota!
You Drive, I’ll Photograph -- Lexus’ Carlos Trevino and his wife took their NX300 F Sport to Colorado Bend State Park. They snapped this photo on the way, in the Texas Hill Country.
On the Farm – The Los Angeles Region’s Jason Aguallo sent this photo of his 2019 RAV4 Hybrid while vacationing at a Utah farm.
An Unexpected Destination -- Andrea Lubawy of the Washington, D.C. office says she loves taking her 2010 Scion tC places small coupes don’t normally go. Here it is on a summer road trip through the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.
Keeping Watch – Sam Liu in Operations Sourcing loves taking his pup, Chowder, on camping trips in their 2018 Tacoma TRD Pro. They’re pictured here in Murrell Park, near Flower Mound, Texas.
On the Range – Darren Thompson of Network Services picks up Miles, Savannah and Smooth for a trail ride. “Dad’s old Ford gave out,” Thompson says. “4Runner to the rescue! The ride goes on!”
