Keep On Truckin’

Project Portal, Toyota’s experiment in hydrogen fuel cell trucking, is back and even better

September 25, 2018

At first glance, the Project Portal 2.0 Beta truck looks like any other 18-wheeler.

But it’s anything but ordinary: it’s electric. And it's fueled by hydrogen.

Beta is Toyota’s second hydrogen fuel cell truck. The first one, Alpha, has already logged thousands of miles of testing in port operations in California. All while emitting nothing but water vapor. Pretty cool, huh?

Beta is running laps at the Toyota Arizona Proving Grounds right now. But first, it had a pit stop at TMNA HQ in Plano, Texas. Watch Doug Murtha, group vice president of corporate strategy and planning, explain more about the project and give a walkaround. You can watch both videos below.

Andrew Coetzee, group vice president of product planning and strategy, highlighted Project Portal as an example of Toyota’s environmental leadership at the recent North America Business Update, which you can watch here. (Please note that you must be logged into the Toyota network to view the video.)
