Hitting the Brakes

A final look back at team member road trips across America

September 24, 2019
Pumpkin Spice Latte season is upon us. Sweater weather, football games and fall’s changing leaves sound pretty good right about now, don’t you think?

But we couldn’t say goodbye to summer without a final edition of Road Trip here on Driver’s Seat. So, here’s one last look at your coworkers’ escapades and adventures. Buckle up, here we go.

Just a note: Though we’ve loved sharing all your photos this summer, we’re no longer taking submissions for Road Trip. But don’t worry, we’ll be back next summer, with more wide-eyed optimism and oodles of wanderlust.

Kayak Time – R&D Senior Engineer Tom Crafts loaded it up for a weekend of kayaking on the Rifle River in Sterling, Michigan.

Pushed to the Limit – Quality’s Alyssa Hernandez took her Camry XSE all the way to the southernmost point of the United States in Key West, Florida. “Nothing like driving down U.S. Highway 1 to the 0 mile mark with the sunroof open and the ocean on both sides,” she says. “I had to pull off to the side to capture the sunset!”
Better than Basic Training – TMNA’s Debi Hernandez wanted to give her husband a special gift for his 70th birthday. The last time he and a friend visited Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California, was during their basic training in the military. They swore to return someday as civilians. Debi made it happen! She gifted them tickets to Laguna Seca – and they got to drive it in a Lexus.
Swagger Wagon is Back – TMNA I.S. Consultant David Statham took his “swagger wagon” on a family road trip to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone.
That’s a Lot of Stuff – R&D’s Joe Walusek says “it takes a lot of space” to get his family to the beach. No kidding! This load was for a recent trip to Holland, Michigan in the waning days of summer vacation.
But First, Tire Check – TFS’ Andrew Lumley took this shot of Miss Pink, his German Shepherd, inspecting the tires on a 2019 Tacoma. They headed to Sevierville, Tennessee to do some fishing and kayaking on Douglas Lake.
Living the Good Life – Former TFS President/CEO Mike Groff is really taking advantage of this retirement thing, heading to Lake Tahoe with his family, including son and USAF Major Joe Groff.
Reach for the Stars – Quality’s Eric Fausto took his girlfriend to South Padre Island in his 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport. The view is out of the world… literally.
Learner’s Permit – TRD’s Steve Poynter road tripped for 3,500 miles with his family from Colorado to Utah. They visited 13 national parks and monuments along the way. Not bad!
Special Delivery – TFS’ Bill Neubauer checked out Luckenbach, Texas over Labor Day weekend.
Winging It – Quality’s Jacques Dudley took his 1992 “wingless” MR2 on a drive through the Texas Hill Country. He saved the car from a junkyard 15 years ago, customizing it and hand-building its new engine.
