Just how tough is the Toyota Tacoma? Jim Lentz, chief executive officer of the Toyota North America Region, recently received a letter from the 1st Special Forces Group Operators stationed in Afghanistan that answers that question—in extremely dramatic fashion.
Their letter (see below) speaks about the performance of the group’s Tacoma TRD when it was engaged in an intense enemy attack. Their Tacoma sustained numerous hits. Bullets pierced the passenger cabin. A grenade became embedded in a front wheel well but, fortunately, did not explode. Through it all, their Tacoma kept going. And, in the soldiers' words, it helped to save their lives.
Lentz wrote back, telling the soldiers that their letter was “one of the best I have ever received as the head of Toyota.” He added: “I felt tremendous pride in our ‘special forces’ at Toyota for creating and building a truck that has become a trusted partner of your team.”
Just as Tundra towed the space shuttle Endeavour, this serves as evidence that Toyota trucks have what it takes to not simply go places but, when needed, go above and beyond!
